animal activists slam fashion industry for using snakeskin

This is the latest one in the series of scathing attacks launched by animal activists against the fashion industry. This time, animal rights campaigners are pointing fingers at the use of increased use of snakeskin. They have gone to the extent of blaming the glamour industry for snakes being on the brink of extinction.

Celebrities like Kylie Minogue and Eva Longoria, who have been seen sporting fancy, latest ‘it’ oversized snakeskin bags are being slammed for encouraging fans to buy similar stuff. The protesters, who are vehemently opposing the use of snakeskin, claim that the method used for skinning is cruel and unregulated.

The gold Zagliani python bag, which became the latest must-have accessory after Kylie was seen clutching one at a recent Prince concert is priced at a whopping £1,280. The sale of the handbag has increased exponentially over the last month, increasing speculations about the way it is manufactured.

PETA spokespersons claim that the brutal way of skinning the snake involves leaving the head of the animal on, and blowing it up with water. In due process, the snake is left in agony for days to come.

Leading bag manufacturers claim that the skins used by them are legally farmed. However, the protesters argue that nobody spends five years to farm a snake, as plenty are available readily.
