Combining modern technologies with handcraft, the Birch wood Bangle created British designer Anthony Roussel draws upon contemporary architecture with recurrent themes of synthesis between drawing and architecture being the prime focus. The bangle emerges both as a sculptural object as well as a wearable piece of body adornment thanks to its transient nature and delicate flowing lines that reflect the influence of the British coastline upon the artist’s works. Questioning the traditional notions of preciousness, Roussel laser cut the wood to challenge existing perceptions of craft and the Birch wood Bangle reminds us of how craftwork can truly be taken into the new millennium.
