For those who have experienced death of a loved one, they’d know that letting go can be the hardest thing ever. Many people still choose to remember their beloved by wearing mourning adornments such as jewelry or flowers. But Gisele Ganne decided to step it up a little and created a range of jewellery called Black Widow that takes the social symbols of death, mourning and divorce and glamorizes them.

Using traditional mourning symbols from ethnic customs around the world, the designer uses the symbols of death (skull), betrayal (the Black Widow), union and marriage symbols and subverts them to depict the unavoidability of parting. It also shows at the same time that a new life awaits the mourner in near future.
