Growing up in a houseful of young aunts shrieking and fussing over hairdos, clothes, shoes and of course manicures, you’d think I’d be insanely protective about preserving my nail paint wouldn’t you? But the fact is I grew up to be a decadent bohemian who detested nail paint and make up in all its form in my teens.
But then I hit 18 and suddenly French tips caught my fantasy and I couldn’t bear to be seen in public without perfectly groomed mitts. But getting into a college affected my sense of style again and for almost good three years I sported chipped nail paint in the most irreverent colors known to the nuns that taught us there!
I had considered the trend to be a very cool college girl thing that would be frowned upon out in the “real world,” but to my utter surprise I recently found out that ill-preserved manicures had become quite acceptable in the spic and span high-street fashion and even the meticulous business circles with the Olsen twins and LiLo pioneering the trend in young Hollywood.
