The fashion house Christian Dior celebrated its 60th anniversary on July 2, in Palace of Versailles, Paris with extravagance as the whole set up cost around £2 million.
British designer John Galliano and his team of 45 models began the exorbitant show in Versailles Palace that represented some 500 years of art history from Leonardo da Vinci to Picasso.
The brand, desired by the rich and famous, used the event to reflect on its evolution from Christian Dior’s 1947 ‘New Look’ to Galliano’s theatrical dresses. Galliano also paid homage to both Dior and his Spanish roots in a 30-minute show.
The show had models, including Gisele Bundchen, Naomi Campbell, Amber Valetta and Linda Evangelista that wore dresses inspired by painters ranging from Cocteau and Picasso to Renoir, Degas and Goya.
The event was attended by Charlize Theron, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Monica Bellucci and Juliette Binoche and other celebrity guests. Kate Moss unexpectedly pulled out a few hours before the show.
The Dior event is one of three major fashion anniversaries taking place this week.
On July 3 Christian Lacroix celebrates 20 years as a couturier and on July 6, in Rome, Valentino inaugurates a weekend full of celebrations to mark his 45 years in fashion.
