fashion website for blind

In an attempt to bring fashion to the doorstep of blind, two American students are designing a talking website which will assist the visually impaired to pick and buy trendy clothing which will be delivered to their doorstep.

The website called www.whitecanelabel.com will be sound sensitive. Starting this fall, the interactive website will ask the fashion preferences of its customers and suggest clothes ranging from casual to formal wear.

A braille tag that will detail the designer’s name, the clothing item, size, color and symbols will help the blind in putting together their exact requirement, which will then be mailed out to them.

The Rochester Institute of Technology students who are designing the site say that they thought of the idea discovering the problems blind people encounter while looking for outfits. The two students involved explained that the primary methods used include metal tags to indicate the basic explanation of the outfit.

The venture is a non-profit effort requesting established designers to donate clothes. All the apparel will be sold at market retail price and thus can’t be misused by people who are not blind.
