The Milan Fashion Week 2008, the haunt of the best designers and the melting pot of fashion from all over the world, was something to look forward to. This year, the menswear collection of the Milan Spring and Summer Collection served to be a special attraction that captured hearts and turned heads.

With the famous signature line of Dolce & Gabbana, the much-awaited Fashion Week kicked off. This season, the brand’s inspiration has chiefly centered around the Oriental. The designer duo made their models walk the ramp dressed in “silk evening pyjamas”, the concept of which has clearly been borrowed from Japanese Kimonos. Dragon and Butterfly printed robes and shorts coming in a host of hues ranging from ivory, to black, sepia, white and grey, grabbed attention as well.

To portray “the relaxed lifestyle of the modern man”, Dolce & Gabbana showcased a collection of casual yet smart evening jackets coupled with black shorts. This particular dress code was teamed up with sneakers made of mixed leather. ‘Wild’ was surely the style statement of the day, as models walked up carrying double-handled bags as perfect accessories, and wearing sandals made of crocodile, panther or eel hides.

Designer Christopher Bailey, of the famous fashion house Burberry Prorsum, refused to be left behind. He came up with a wonderful line of Crumpled Classics Collection, that was inspired by the garden. No wonder, this collection comprised of crumpled shirts, coats, hats and jackets. Panama gardening hats, checked canvas and large leather totes were used as accessories.

Versace designerwear, led by Donatella Versace, exhibited its brand new collection, suitably described as ” formal attitude, informal mindset”. Models walked the ramp with sleeves rolled up, shirt hems squared off, slim as well as wide trousers, donning thin light-coloured silk scarves as substitutes for ties, and sunglasses with catchy rims.

The reputed Fashion Week lasts till June 24th. With more than forty top-rated designers displaying their collections, no wonder the ramp is set on fire.
