wills lifestyle india fashion week goes green

Going green is not just the right thing to do, but also the best way to make a fashion statement too. Celebrated fashion designer Vikram Phadnis, who is popular with Bollywood stars like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Akshaye Khanna, set the ‘green’ mood for the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week (WIFW) with his eclectic collection aptly named ‘Save the Earth’.

Phadnis’ collection, which is inspired by the various elements of nature like soil, water and leaves, certainly conveyed the message that is indeed high time we pull up our socks and do our bit to reduce global warming.

Aquamarine blue, earthy hues to muted pinks and greens were some of the shades which were a part of the Vikram Phadnis’ collection. Though the collection ‘Save the Earth’ was inspired by nature, the designer did not restrict himself to just eco friendly fabrics.

Deepika Govind, Nitin Bal Chauhan, Ruchira Kandhari and Ekta Jaipuria are some of the other designers who have used natural fabrics like natural silks, handwoven wool, etc to showcase their various collections in WIFW.

Unfortunately, top designers like Manish Arora are yet to join the eco-friendly bandwagon. I guess this has to do a lot with viability and profitability too, because if more and more clients want environment-friendly clothes, then I am sure top-of-the-line designers will also let their creative juices flow and design more ‘green’ clothing and accessories.
