Crystal maker Swarovski and the Dutch electronics major, Philips seem to have a thing going for them. First, they collaborated to create the Active Crystals line which saw Swarovski crystals invading Philips’ USB drives and headphones. Now, they have come together again to stir up things in the fashion accessories market. Their latest creation is the Lumalive technology which aims to integrate fabrics, lights and crystals. This effort has resulted in the Lumalive bag, which literally brings the handbag to life with it’s shimmering Swarovski crystals powered by dazzling lights courtesy Philips.

The lights are pre-programmed to display a pattern/message behind it’s crystal screen. Although we like the purple light that this bag exudes, we hope that a future version of the Lumalive bag won’t include a programmable display. If that ever happens, the bag will look more like a miniature mobile advertising/communication billboard than a handbag. We hope that Swarovski and Philips stick to creating eye-pleasing glitter than flooding fashion chains with bags being able to display all kinds of messages. And just as we write, this bag could even spark off an all-new advertising trend.
