Have you ever cycled in the night? Cyclists amongst us will confirm that they are always chanting the name of the Almighty to save them from the misfortune of broken bones and a broken cycle if a bigger vehicle fails to notice the rider on the road. Jenny Arksey of Goose Design and Simon Browning of PDD have designed an illuminated jacket for cyclists dubbed the ILLUM Cycling jacket that helps other vehicles to spot the cyclist in the dark. Ergonomic panels form patterns of red and white light on the back and front shoulder and top of the back of the jacket with a soft switch on the sleeve to turn on or off the light as desired. Solar photovoltaic cells power a thin film battery, which activates the lights with the aid of a transparent conductive layer. Next time while cycling in the dark, try the ILLUM Cycling Jacket for your safety.
