When I was a little girl, my mum just loved to dress me up in cute, ultra-girlie clothes which meant that half of the time I ended up looking like a prop from a fairytale show more than a human being. The sailor girl outfits provided some relief, but my mom’s obsession with Popeye kinda ruined that for me after a while as well. Now, I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing but the whole nautical-inspired look is back in fashion all over again, though I’m yet to see any real life person (roommate, officemates, the beauty shop girl, awkward teen who works at the neighborhood pizzeria, et al) actually wearing one of these. But I’m a little more than perplexed by the fact that the fashion glossies, those bibles saving every city girl’s soul, keep propagating the ‘in-ness’ of the navy-white striped dresses. So, I’m willing to throw caution to the wind and try out something nautical this summer. Since I’m neither runway model lean nor a rebellious teen, the look might be a little harder to pull off, but I guess it shouldn’t be too bad if I wore my striped black and white boat neck top with a pair of low rise skinny capris, or even a navy top with white collar detail with white hot pants or even a short skirt! I really doubt I’m going to find any of those vividly sailor-inspired tops and dresses in the retail stores. I can actually afford to shop at anytime soon, but I guess having one custom-stitched at the local boutique might not be that bad an idea. Do lemme know how you plan to fit the nautical look into your own wardrobe this summer.
