Meryl Smith designed a doggy bag called “Excess Baggage” for an exhibition at Honey Space in New York. It was the outcome of her creative spontaneity when she was asked to make sculptures of dimensions that were suited to hold international carry-on luggage. The “Excess Baggage” doggy sports a leather coat with golden print on it. I have serious doubts about the originality and aesthetic caliber of this designer. Have you seen a dog with all kinds of floral prints on its coat along with an unauthorized Louis Vuitton signature all over? I really don’t care whether Louis Vuitton wants to sue Meryl Smith for illegally using the LV logo. At the moment I am experiencing bouts of nausea just by looking at the bag!

The poor dummy has quite a real-looking face and body. The handles look as though they are protruding out of the body of the animal. The worst part is the fake LV zipper on its torso! No wonder the poor doggy looks so very melancholic. I wonder why people use animal forms for making inanimate objects. Aren’t there better ideas?
