Hussein Chalayan’s 2007 Spring collection was all about innovative use of material blending fashion, art and technology.
This season, his bizarre collection was all about dresses that physically transform.
Collaborating with 2d:3d, he created prototype dresses with embedded motors, microcontrollers and microswitches.
One of the remarkable pieces was a Victorian-style gown whose hemline automatically rose and neckline dropped to shape shift into a flapper hemline. A skirt also lifted and its opaque material became reflective.
The mechanical movements ranged from smooth to abrupt, for a litlle more dramatic effect.
However, the most clever pieces was a dress which retracted into a wide rimmed hat, leaving the model naked. Well, this is very interesting.
