South African fashion designer Gavin Rajah has joined wide array of international celebrities whose work for securing children’s rights has seen them appointed as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors. It is worth mentioning in this regard that tennis great and world number 1 Roger Federer and singer Shakira is also the goodwill ambassador of UNICEF.
According to Rajah,
I am deeply honoured by this appointment, I have always been a great admirer of UNICEF’s work to protect the children of the world and I am proud to have been given the opportunity to help UNICEF protect, care for and stamp out the most abhorrent crime of violence against children, particularly those in my own country. We must all work harder to create safer conditions for children to grow up in. There is no future without children.
In my opinion, it was the contribution of Rajah to the lives of South African children and their families that forced UNICEF to select South Africa’s top couturier to champion the rights of young people. Mr Rajah is one of the founders of Cape Town Fashion Week.
